Mary Beth starring in new movie “Cora”
PERCEPTION // ONE MAN BAND ANNOUNCES THE START OF PRINCIPAL PHOTOGRAPHY OF
GENRE FILM “CORA” STARRING SOAP ACTRESS MARY BETH EVANS OF “DAYS OF OUR LIVES”
Los Angeles, CA (October 10, 2012) – Principal photography has begun today in Los Angeles on Perception // One Man Band’s latest production, “Cora,” a horror film starring popular soap actress Mary Beth Evans (“Days Of Our Lives,” “The Bay”), Jillian Clare (“Days of our Lives,” “Miss Behave”), David Dastmalchian (“The Dark Knight,” “The Horsemen”) and Vince Grant (“Dreamgirls,” Seeking AFriend For the End of the World”).
“Cora” is a coming of age story about an innocent teenage girl (Jillian Clare in the title role) growing up in a tension-filled household with her adulterous mother, Alicia (Mary Beth Evans) and aloving but emasculated father, Howard (Vince Grant), who is forced by circumstances beyond her control to make a decision between good and evil and right and wrong.
When Cora’s unhappy and dissatisfied mother, Alicia, takes a new, younger lover, he turns out to be something none of them could ever imagine – a vampire (David Dastmalchian). After “turning” Alicia with his bite, he quickly tires of her and instead becomes enamored of the young nubile Cora and sets his vampiric sights on her. After her fate is sealed with his vampire’s kiss, Cora struggles with the awakening yearnings in her body and soul. She struggles to maintain her humanity as the vampire side threatens to consume her. The once naive teenager undergoes a transformation not only physically but emotionally and spiritually as well. She taps into a reserve of hidden strength she never knew she possessed.
While “Cora” uses the familiar conventions of the vampire genre, at its core, it’s a dramatic tale about a fractured family and the choices each of them make and how their decisions affect all of them.
Directed by Ricky Lloyd George (“The Stand In,” “Ellie”) from a screenplay he co-wrote with Peter Cameron, the film is produced by Perception // One Man Band’s Jon Alex and Dana Laughlin. “Cora” reunites Lloyd George with Director of Photography Matthias Schubert (“Ellie,” “The Bay”). Anna Ramey and Rob Overbeck’s Red Cube Pictures (“The Carrier,” “Love In the Time of Monsters”)provide the production services.
Perception // One Man Band’s founder Jon Alex said, “Cora has a little bit of something for everyone. Our goal was to find a way to do a fun, scary, sexy, thought-provoking ride for the audience and to do so in a non-traditional horror film way.”
